SCC, Europe’s biggest independent IT solutions provider, is helping the UK respond to the COVID-19 crisis with innovative Thermal Fever Detection technology designed to help businesses prepare for life after lockdown.
Already being extensively tested in hospitals, restaurants and airports across Britain, the Thermal Fever Detection solution uses devices ranging from handheld to fixed multi-camera systems to record body temperature and identify anyone displaying signs of fever, with real-time alerts to enable interception and help prevent the spread of virus.
Amid the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, businesses are preparing to resume operations and will be required to demonstrate that proactive measures are in place to safeguard the health and wellbeing of employees and customers at all premises.
Thermal Fever Detection will play a vital part in protecting people and enabling safe social distancing, helping to accelerate authorisation for businesses to reopen by Government and other the relevant authorities. The technology can be used in any environment with human traffic and is rapidly being adopted by governments, transport authorities and retailers worldwide.
At Bournemouth Airport, SCC has installed a mobile Thermal Temperature Detection system, mounted on a tripod in the staff entrance. This can be monitored by security staff, with signs of high temperatures automatically identified before the employee can socialise with colleagues.
The next deployment phase will see the introduction of a multi-camera system, positioned at each entry point across the airport’s terminal building, in departures and arrivals, enabling border staff to intercept any passengers showing signs of a high temperature.
By deploying this technology as part of a range of measures, airports can begin to reopen for business safely, reducing the risk of a second wave of COVID-19 cases and protecting passengers and employees. Thermal Fever Detection could also help airlines by removing the requirement to undersell occupancy to enable social distancing on flights.
James Rigby, SCC Chief Executive, said: “When the UK is ready to ease strict lockdown measures, we will see permanent changes to the way we live and work, and all businesses will need to implement new protective measures to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 and other contagious diseases by reducing the opportunity for transmission.”
“Critically, all businesses must be in a position to demonstrate that safe social distancing measures are in place before the country is able to mobilise again, and SCC’s Thermal Fever Detection solution could be an important component of solutions enabling this, helping companies regain consumer confidence and begin to recover from the most unprecedented economic event of modern times.”
